Question

Here goes....
My son is very amazing. He despite some of my challenges, his health issues, our financial situations - has done so well.
I say despite my challenges, because I am disabled and can't always do stuff, and although one can try their hardest. The mom guilt is real. I did do some good things - but his talents did the rest. He has been in a public school with a gifted track and been on that track. He has never been a kid who has cause any difficulties.
He has had many challenges, he has severe allergies which are life threatening - not many people understand them. If he is touched with the allergens he could die. He has closed to lived in the hospital from infancy to middle school. He has extreme asthma. He had a collapsed lung when he was in first grade. After I had taken him to 2 specialist and 2 ers that week - no one helped me.. thank goodness for the nurse at his school & what happened after. I am on a tangent but this kid despite all that almost losing his life like 3x - (he doesn't remember them- just me) but he NEVER LET ANYTHING STOP HIM. Even me, who was the very big helicopter at times mom. But who wouldn't be with a kid who you almost lost?   PEOPLE who just do not get the allergies.. then he couldn't go to the parties the kids in his class would have because they never considered his allergies..so he had a tough social interactions and was made fun of.. also for his clothes.  And a few other things..  anyway. I wasn't always so sick and my life has always been my son. I did have to walk away from a job once because he was in ICU and they were not getting it.. I was a young mom. Doing it alone..

Feeding a son with specific allergies is expensive(I clipped coupons as best I could - but where we live the price for organic, fresh food ,nut free, dairy free, egg free foods - no corn no beef & no cross contamination try to find it and price it), so I worked really hard and was really always stressed out. His Dad never really paid child support. I say really because I was scared of him. It had been a abusive relationship. I left when he beat me when I was pregnant. I wasn't going to raise my son in that. The court made him pay $63.00 as a temporary order. I did not know it was a temporary order till about 5years later. He threatened me. So I didn't go back for years just worked my **** off. When I got help from friends to go back because I had lost my career.  It changed he threatened me again(this is a military dude just fyi).
Anyway, currently he got a lawyer lowered his support. (He is in arrears but it doesn't matter he is on va disabled for drinking & doesn't care - they can't touch his money) It wasn't much before, but it is low now..  I don't have money to afford a lawyer & all the stress of that really makes me sick.. he wasn't paying it anyway.. . I just try to make it work. Outside of child support that man has never done anything for my son.  I get to be a parent thought, although circumstances aren't optimal that's ok. My son is not lacking in love.
My son is now in his Junior year in highschool, we have been gifted old computers previously & found old printers from the street. They broke, or the cord messed up.
 He did most of his homework on his phone, & printed at school. Which messed with his grades. A bit. I tried to talk to his teachers..Some understood others.. well. .

My son has had a small job at a center as a youth advocate, since he was 14. While still maintaining a high GPA. He is trying to save some money to buy a Mac. He goes to a school where kids do not live like us. Sometimes he has had to use his money to buy lunch, he doesn't want to stress me out. He knows a bit about bills and wants to eventually pay a rent bill. That is his goal. He has wanted to do that since he was 15. This kid, ya know.. while other 15year olds  trying to buy sneakers or go out. He wants to pay rent.
  I heard him tell his friends it is not okay for the way they talk to their mom's. Telling them to be grateful.
 I have kept the financial situation away from him as best as possible, to not let him know.. sometimes bills come or the wifi doesn't work or phones.  I do the best I can.

Where we are now  on a fixed income. The rent goes up and I am behind on rent, the electrical bill is high - sometimes juggling bills is ALOT.
I have started to read books on financial help to try to learn and try to empower myself more.  I am not on social services because I make like a couple dollars over. So no help with food. I do my best. When you decide to pay your bill or feed your kid - what do you choose? But if you had to explain to someone this what do you do?  God help if you as a parent do not have a bra and have to buy one.. I get sick to my stomach if I have to buy something for myself.  I am sure I am not alone in this..
I just want him to have a teen moment ya know. The kids I hear him talk to get to go away on vacations on planes. I am not saying I want a plane trip. Ya know. We never been on a vacation. We do not need to vacations. There are NEEDS & then there are wants. Yeah to some this maybe a want. But today to be effective a computer is a need. He is as per his counselor at school a great candidate for a IVY. So he is all about doing his best.  


At the end if nothing comes of this petition - We love each other. This kid is a blessing to my life. I am fortunate to not only love my kid - I enjoy him as a human being. He is polite, humble, caring, compassionate, intelligent, and wants to contribute to the world. He teaches me so much, he is always reading, he never has cursed around me - an example of who is his since he was little is : it was thunderstorms and we were visiting my mom's and he stopped playing his game and ran into his grandma's room - he then came back and picked up his game.. I asked what happened? He said Grandma is scared of thunder mom.. I went to check on her.. he was 5 years old. It is hard to believe.  But there are many people who meet him and see his light. I guess it is because he isn't supposed to be here with all the adversities.. I am so fortunate to I get to be his Mom.


I am asking sending this out into the ether of the net  because his dream computer is a Mac. He is saving his money - but he won't realistically have enough. He also is trying to factor in buying school supplies. I want him to be a kid. I realize this may make me seem like a terrible mom in some of your eyes, because I have to ask for this type of help.. I'm sorry.
 I just want him to be a teen for a second. To not worry.
