I'm in love with a guy, but he lives on the other side of the country (I live in the middle of England, he lives in Scotland). He knows I like him, and he's still keen to be friends and, as a coincidence, I am trying to move up to Edinburgh. I understand that this may seem creepy, seeing as this is where the guy lives n'all, but it isn't just this guy that I'm going up to Edinburgh for, but for the entire city (music scene, film, theatre, I want to be a composer). However, at the moment I am stuck back home and my parents are forcing me to look for a job in industries that have no relevance or interest for me in areas of the country I do not want to go to. So, my question is, do I keep fighting to live in Edinburgh, with the promise of extremely happy love and possibly good jobs and fun? Or do I follow my parents advice and become sensible? This question has had me trapped in limbo for months, and I'm feeling lost, confused and upset so an answer would be most useful.
Country: Great Britain

Only you know truly what you can put up with ...I can tell you from experience that having a job that pays well but that you hate is the perfect recipe for being miserable. If you truly want to move to Edinburgh, have a plan first. Have a job lined up, figure out the safe areas of town to live, and educate and prepare yourself for the line of work you want to do. With that said, you should also have a backpack plan.  It will be a struggle to make a living as a composer. Have you studied music in an academic setting? It will be invaluable and good way of networking. If it is your dream, you shouldn't give up on it, but like I said you should have a plan. I know of people who have become lawyers, but are still pursuing an acting career because that has been their dream.  It will be easier for your parents to accept if you present them with a plan, and it will show them that you are serious and this is not all about some guy.

You also really need to ask yourself if you only want to move because of your friend. I know it may seem like a coincidence - we are very good at fooling ourselves. Be honest and ask yourself would Edinburgh even have come up had you never met the guy? You don't know what will happen with him so don't let that dictate your decision. Think instead if it is the right thing for your future. Have you ever been so far from home? Think how much you will miss your family and friends. Of course, with the way the economy is now perhaps you should just take any job for now, and work on your music on your free time. I am also assuming that you know no one else in Edinburgh other than him. What if it doesn't work out? If it is meant to be, everything will sort of work out. I think your parents would feel more comfortable if say you were moving to attend university there. I suggest you right out the pros and cons and try to figure out which option you will be happier with... i hope this helped. come back if you want to talk :)

1. Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me; Body of Christ, save me; Blood of Christ, inebriate me; Water from the side of Christ, wash me; Passion of Christ, strengthen me; O good Jesus, hear me; within Thy wounds, hide me; let me never be separated from Thee; from the evil one, deliver me; at the hour of my death, call me and bid me come to Thee, that with Thy saints, I may praise Thee forever and ever. Amen.

2. Prayer Against Malefice from the Greek Ritual

God, our Lord, King of ages, All-powerful and All-mighty, You Who made everything and Who transform everything simply by Your will. You Who in Babylon changed into dew the flames of the ‘seven-times hotter’ furnace and protected and saved the three holy children. You are the doctor and the physician of our soul. You are the salvation of those who turn to You.

We beseech You to make powerless, banish, and drive out every diabolic power, presence, and machination; every evil influence, malefice, or evil eye and all evil actions aimed against Your servant [name of person/s]. Where there is envy and malice, give us an abundance of goodness, endurance, victory, and charity.

O Lord, You Who love man, we beg You to reach out Your powerful hands and Your most high and mighty arms and send the angel of peace over us, to protect us, body and soul. May he keep at bay and vanquish every evil power, every poison or malice invoked against us by corrupt and envious people.

Then, under the protection of Your authority may we sing, in gratitude, ‘The Lord is my salvation; whom should I fear? I will not fear evil because You are with me, my God, my strength, my powerful Lord, Lord of peace, Father of all ages.”

Yes, Lord our God, be merciful to us, Your image, and save your servant [name of person/s] from every threat or harm from the evil one, and protect him/her by raising him/her above all evil. We ask You this through the intercession of our Most Blessed, glorious Lady, Mary ever Virgin, Mother of God, of the most splendid archangels and all Your saints. Amen!

3. Prayer for Deliverance

My Lord, you are all powerful, you are God, you are Father. We beg you through the intercession and help of the archangels Michael, Raphael and Gabriel, for the deliverance of our brothers and sisters who are enslaved by the evil one. All saints of Heaven, come to our aid.

From anxiety, sadness and obsessions, we beg You. Free us, O Lord. From hatred, fornication, envy, we beg You, Free us, O Lord. From thoughts of jealousy, rage, and death, we beg You, Free us, O Lord. From every thought of suicide and abortion, we beg You, Free us, O Lord. From every form of sinful sexuality, we beg You, Free us, O Lord.

From every division in our family, and every harmful friendship, we beg You, Free us, O Lord. From every sort of spell, malefic, witchcraft, and every form of the occult, we beg You, Free us, O Lord.

Lord, You Who said, “I leave you peace, My peace I give you,” grant that, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, we may be liberated from every evil spell and enjoy your peace always. In the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.
