It is normal to feel stressed and overwhelmed. College does that to everyone at one point. Take a deep breath. The real question is not whether you are good at writing, but if you LIKE it? Is this what you truly like? If it is what you want to do then by all means continue. Besides, nowhere is it set in stone that you MUST have a career based on your college major. People change, desires change - it is part of growing up, and if you feel you want to do something else than switch majors. You will likely change careers more than once in your life. Build from what you have learned and move forward. If you can't get an internship, volunteer somewhere. Most nonprofit org's don't care about grades. They need passionate caring individuals who are willing to give up their time. You can just ask to manage/create the org's social media. At least then, you would be serving another's interest. It also looks great on internship applications.
As for the internet, unplug!- disconnect the wifi, etc. when you have work due. Maybe you should not be doing your work at home with all the distractions. Head to the library and force yourself to stay there until you finish. The internet isn't going anywhere - it will be there when you are done with your assignments. Coming from a fellow procrastinator, you gotta figure out a way to get stuff done on time. For me, what worked was taking the max amount of units a semester and doing all kinds of extracurricular and volunteer activities. It has been the only way I have found to force me to do stuff AHEAD of time - knowing that I absolutely will not be able to do the work otherwise. Study with a friend or write your paper with a fellow classmate - it forces both of you to work on it at that specific moment. Last suggestion- the human brain is amazingly complex and if well trained can multitask wonderfully. You can be on the internet and at the same time think about your assignments. You can record talking points or get software with voice recognition so you can at least brain storm and surf the media at the same time.
Your grades are not a reflection of your intelligence. You said yourself that the real problem is your procrastination. Change your work eithic. Make a plan - plan out your week at least until you can get more will power. Perhaps you can switch your major to something more in line with your online interests. Graphic/web design, programming, computer animation, etc. check with the English department and check with your department counselor. Maybe you can see something you are more interested in ...I would also check the various social media corporate sites and see the positions they are currently hiring, and see if any of those interest you. Then just read the descriptions and objectively ask yourself how you could get the position. Now is the time to take these kind of risks when you're not responsible for anyone else but yourself. So what if you have to stay an extra year... take your time. I would even suggest you do an education abroad program. This also looks great on resumes. Figure things out. Work will be there when you get out. There is no need to rush, but you do have to apply yourself and do well in classes. All I am saying is take different courses - not just those in your major- that interest you. Different media co's too have college ambassadors (i.e. HBOCollege, etc.) - you host events etc. for them so this may be something you are interested in.
