I just turned 18 this april, I have been looking for work for years now(since i turned 16) and have no luck. no where seems to want to give me a chance and it's slowly been dragging down my hope. I am an artist yet i cannot even make a simple sketch anymore because i feel like everything i do is pointless. to make matters worse i dont have a good home life either. My father died almost 2 years ago and left me with my stepmother and my mini baseball team sized group of siblings. the only good thing about it is my spouse that currently lives with me and my family. Until i can get work and save up like he is we cant move out.We are stuck and i feel like im getting more and more stuck like im standing in quick sand. I'm happy he is working but at the same time it makes me feel useless. To make things even WORSE my stepmother is starting to ask that i pay rent too. my stepmother is not a very positive or calm person and triggers my anxiety alot. i feel very stuck and am starting to lose hope. what should i do? how can i possibly get on my feet with no job, car, or time to find work? my stepmother always finds reasons for me not to go out, then yells at me for "sitting around at home" and "not looking for work". I have had a hard life and clam up alot, afraid to speak my mind in fear of punishment. i'm feeling desperate. I just want to finally start living :(

Are you still attending a school? If being an artist is your Plan A, do you have Plan B, C, D ...?

Have you talked with other artists and asked them to review your works? What they say? How about general audiences? Does your work appeal to them or just a targeted group? Did you market yourself and your artwork online? How are you doing it?

I think you need to do some "research" and "calculation" to measure your talent in this field and figure out the probability of success. I can tell you have great passion, but you do need to be objective since this is so important to you.

Never hind your feelings from people who care and love you. Keep the communication open, keep your social life active. You need good mental healthy and support systems to sustain.

You are not alone. We are always here ...
