Recently I moved to Dallas and live in an apartment.  I have worked all my life but at present my income is Social Security and a small pension.  Two years ago I took a course in interpreting Spanish/English and this did provide some income, but recently I notice I have difficulty retaining some sentences and able to translate some words.  I have several debts and too little income to cover payments and monthly expenses.  For some time all I can think about is if this is my present and my future why carry on this unnecessarily, I should just end it all.  Obviously I am very depressed and scared.

Your feelings are understandable. It is normal to be fearful in the face of seeming insurmountable odds. However, put this in perspective. This is something I have had to do as well. I had a daughter die in 2008 due to complications of a liver transplant and kidney failure. She battled for ten months to survive and her mother and I were right beside her, and not working. To this day, I still have over $100,000 dollars in debt. In going through this experience, while I tried to keep up with what was an overwhelming mountain of debt, I soon fell behind though I worked seven days a week as a driver, which I still do to this day. Here's what I learned. Different companies do not care. Corporate America doesn't care. Payment plans, nothing. No one would work with me. So, I decided that if they didn't care, I didn't care. The well being of the rest of my family was more important than companies who had no heart. I have no credit now, but I have a well cared for family. Someday I'll settle up and get paid up. But family comes first. My friend, you come first. Your life is important, it is meaningful, you are your own and my hero too. I want you to understand that its ok to let some of that debt go. If they take you to court, the judge will see you have little income. It'll be ok. Declare bankruptcy if you have to. You may have to downsize your apartment. You may have to move south, maybe down to Waco or something. Cheaper rent. Do what you need to do friend and then find that true purpose in your life, to help others. It can be as simple as smiling at people in the grocery store. This world is so short on smiles these days. You are loved, value yourself and never look back. My best to you
